Our Commitment to Equity

Project Lemonade promotes equity and improves lives by increasing access to resources, opportunities and connections for all youth in foster care. We commit to centering foster youth in all we do. We are focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, access, belonging and justice across our organization and in our practices.

We respect and value all people across race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, national origin or citizenship status, age and ability status. We expect our partner organizations, funders, staff, volunteers, board members, vendors, and key collaborators to uphold these standards. We engage in conversation and take action when needed.

We recognize that we have a role to play in dismantling systems that are inequitable, especially within the child welfare system. African American and Native American communities are over-represented in our child welfare system. We will amplify the voices of African American and Native American foster youth and partner with culturally specific organizations.

We commit to building equity across our organization, in our leadership, partnerships, and throughout our programming. Our commitment is ongoing. We will maintain an annual equity plan as part of our annual goals that will continue to deepen and move our equity work forward. Input and feedback from diverse constituents and including youth impacted by foster care, will inform our equity plans.
